Carnivorous Dinosaurs

Almost all carnivorous dinosaurs belong to the family of theropods. The characteristic features of this family include hollow bones and three toes with large claws on each end.

Interestingly, most of these carnivores were either huge, like the Giganotosaurus or the Allosaurus, or tiny, like the Compsognathus and the Microraptor. While it may be interesting to think of these long lost creatures as fierce hunters bringing down giant herbivores for food, scientists speculate that they were just as likely to scavenge or scare away other predators to claim their kills.
